Likely originally built by Abassids in the 9th century the Minaret of Isa (Jesus | مئذنة عيسى) i is the tallest of the three Umayyad Mosque minarets. The main body was rebuilt by Ayyubids in 1247 after being destroyed in a siege. It was burnt down in a fire in 1392 and the upper section was built by Ottomans – hence the square-shaped base and (Ottoman) octagonal spire. According to Islamic traditions the Prophet Isa (Jesus) will descend from the heavens via this minaret on Judgement Day to confront the antichrist.
The Dome of the Eagle (قبة النسر) is thought to be the second dome built in the Islamic era (after the Dome of the Rock | قبّة الصخرة) and is the largest of ther Great Mosque's three domes sitting atop the main prayer hall. This photo is of the original wooden dome which burned down in the fire of 1893. The Dome of the Ablution Fountain can be seen in the far left.
