1898-1930 Antakya Waterwheel on the Orontes Framed Vintage Photo

Rare view of an old waterwheel on the Orontes river (العاصي) and what looks to be the Ihsaniye Mosque in Antakya (Antioch | أنطاكية) with horsemen taking in the views from the bank. At the time of this photo, the region was part of historical Syria - either under the Ottoman Aleppo Vilayet (ولاية حلب) or part of Sanjak of Alexandretta form 1921-37 (لواء الإسكندرونة). It was annexed by Turkiye (تركيا) in 1939.

This dry plate negative (reprint) is dated between 1898-1930 and taken by the American Colony/ Matson Photo Service.
