1938 vintage photograph of a steel waterwheel, built by the League of Nations on the Khabur River (نهر الخابور) - the largest perennial tributary to the Euphrates in Syria. Also is is near the town of Tel Tamer (تل تمر) in western Al-Hassakah Province (محافظة الحسكة) which was founded by Assyrian refugees fleeing Iraq. Photo by John D. Whiting as a member of the American Colony in Jerusalem.
