1934-39 Antakya Orontes Roman Gate Bridge Framed Vintage Photo

This vintage photo reprint of the Roman 'Gate Bridge' on the Orontes river (العاصي) in Antakya (Antioch | أنطاكية). The bridge originally led up to the Philonauta Gate but both were demolished in the 1970s and 1950s respectively.

Originally part of the Ottoman Aleppo Vilayet (ولاية حلب), at the time of this photo, the region was likley still part of historical Syria - specifically, the Sanjak of Alexandretta from 1921-37 (لواء الإسكندرونة). It was annexed by Turkiye (تركيا) in 1939.
