This historic photograph (Albumen silver print reprint), taken in 1872 by the renowned photographer Felix Bonfils, captures the Murad Pasha Mosque (جَامِع مُرَاد بَاشَ) in the Suwayqa sector of the Al-Midan district (حي الميدان) of Damascus. This early Ottoman-era mosque built in 1568 by Murad Pasha, the Ottoman governor of Damascus. The mosque served as both a religious center and a stop along the historic Road to Mecca pilgrimage route, and it later became associated with the Naqshbandi Sufi order and was also known as the Naqshbandi Mosque (جَامِع النَّقْشَبَنْدِي).
