This is a photo reprint of the west side of the Church of Saint Simeon Stylites (كنيسة مار سمعان العمودي) in the Aleppo province (محافظة حلب). This Byzantine church is known locally as the Fortress of Simeon (قلعة سمعان) or Monastery of Simeon (دير سمعان) and is one of the oldest surviving Churches, initially built in 473 AD. Once an important pilgrimage site for Christians in the region it is uniquely designed in crucifix form, and made up of four distinct basilica complexes. In 2011, the Church along with the 'Ancient Villages of Northern Syria' were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This dry plate negative (reprint) is dated between 1898-1946 and taken by the American Colony/ Matson Photo Service.
