Built in 831 during the Abbasid era, the Minaret of the Bride (مئذنة العروس) was the first of the three minarets that tower above the Umayyad Mosque (الجامع الأموي) in Damascus. Local legend claims that the minaret is named after the daughter of the merchant who provided lead for the minaret's roof. You can see the beautiful views of Damascus and Mount Qasioun (جبل قاسيون) range in the background of this photocrom reprint. The original photograph, taken by Felix Bonfils was likely taken in the 1880s.
