Established by Byzantine emperor Justinian I in 547 AD, Our Lady of Saydnaya Monastery (دير سيدة صيدنايا) is one of the oldest monasteries in the world. A monastery of the Greek Orthodox Church of Antioch (بطريركيّة أنطاكية وسائر المشرق للروم الأرثوذكس) it houses an icon of Saint Mary (مريم العذراء) which is said to be painted by Saint Luke (لوقا الإنجيلي) and serves as an important pilgrimage site. The main day of pilgrimage is September 8th, to commemorate the birthday of Saint Mary. This vintage postcard reprint features the main facade and steep stairways.
